Monitoring safety status through Modbus with the Horner X10
Recently, our very own Jeff Johnson and Adam Bohn created a demo that showcases the ability of the Horner X10 and the Inxpect controller to communicate over Modbus.
This custom demo highlights the ease with which a Horner PLC can be used alongside an Inxpect radar-based safety system to monitor the status of sensors, troubleshoot the system, and provide operators with more detailed information and feedback over a means of non-safety communication. All while reserving the safety outputs on the Inxpect controller to collaborate with safety-rated products.

mGard is the extremely robust range of mechanical trapped key interlocks from Fortress. Suitable for use up to PLe/Cat. 4 or SIL 3, trapped key interlocking can be used to enforce complex safety sequences, particularly where multiple energy sources (e.g., electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic) are involved.
Mechanical keys eliminate most of the electrical wiring associated with other types of interlocks, making mGard a cost-effective solution.
Turck’s TBIP hybrid safety block I/O modules combine standard and safety inputs/outputs in a single device. This enables the IP65/IP67/IP69K hybrid modules to be adapted flexibly to the actual signal requirements of your machine. The modules can operate with external safety PLCs or as a stand-alone remote safety controller.
